So most of you know I had surgery wed and  came home yesterday.  Well, I woke up at about 3:30am and wanted something to drink so I went out and took my meds and had a little water and chicken bullion (cold).  Since I hadn't gotten the mail for a few days I decided to walk down to get the mail.  It was very cold outside but felt very refreshing.  Since surgery on Wed morning I have been walking A LOT (according to the nurses).  It feels really good to walk.  Most of my gas pain is gone.  I fell asleep on the couch for about 2 hours and then decided to come back to bed.  Now, as I walked into the kitchen to turn out the light the scale was calling my name.  I really didnt want to weight myself....I wanted to wait until my one week post-op apt but I just couldn't resist.  I walk over....step on....and WHAT??????  I am 2lbs heavier then the morning of surgery!!!  I know, I know I am probably freaking out...and I had not planned on seeing a huge lose but I sure as heck didnt expect to see a gain.  Esp since most of you have a huge lose the first week.  I DO NOT WANT TO BECOME A VICTIM TO THE SCALE!!!  Needless to say I will not get back on until my one week post-op apt next Wed morning.  My mom just happened to be getting up to use the bathroom (since she is staying with me for a week taking care of me) and she said...NO NO NO....stay off the scale!!  I am dissappointed that I didn't wait and now that number is going to be stuck in my head til wed. AHHHH!!   All I have had is SF Jello, chicken broth, and water since surgery.  And I am very happy with that.  I have not been hungry at all.    Why do we torture ourselves??  Has this happened to anyone else??

Throw the scales away for about the first 9 months, only weigh at the doctors. Remember, you just had surgey, remember the IV's? fluids. It will all go away. Give it time and don't  get depressed about it. That's what your body wants you to do so you can say, oh poor me and eat some no no food. Our minds are pretty smart at tricking us. Give this time, it's not a mircle cure, it is a lifestyle change. Congrats on all the walking, keep it up.

You are definitely LOCA girl!!!!! You listen to your moma, Darlene and all of us when we tell you...step away from the scale!

This weight gain is quite normal because like Darlene said....you were pumped full of fluid. So don't trip girl..and have some hide your scale.

All I know I never had a scale and woud weigh at the gym once a month...I did not have much follow up in the early days. I couldn't even fit in my clothes after surgery....I was bummed, but then all of sudden....OMG you just won't believe what happens!

Good luck Tiff!

Don't stress, I came home from the hospital weighing TWELVE pounds more than I did when I went in.  Luckily I had been chatting with a CNA in the hospital and had said to her "I can't wait to go home and weigh!"  She warned me about the weight gain from the fluids.  If I hadn't known, I would probably have gone into complete panic mode!  It comes off super quickly; you've probably already lost several pounds of fluids that you didn't even know you'd brought home with you!

They are right, they fill you with fluids and it takes time.  I went up almost 15 lbs when I had my knee surgery and I was freaking out.  I was on a high protein low carb diet in the hospital too.  Well guess what, I fretted over nothing, I lost all of that and more.  So stay off the scale and chill.  You can't help but lose weight.  You will be fine.
